■F-86 SABRE Developed by
the North American Aviation (Via
series of mergers became a part
of Boeing in 1996),the F-86 Sabre
was the U.S.Air Force's first swept-wing
jet fighter.The aircraft made its
initial flight on Oct.1,1947.Originally
designed as a
high-altitude day-fighter,it
was subsequently redesigned into
all-weather interceptor(F-86D)and
a fighter-bomber(F-86H).The first
production model flew on May 20,1948.In
addition to being produced by the
North American Aviation,the Sabre
was also Licensed produces by Canadair(Canada),CAC(Australia),Fiat(Italy),and
Mitsubishi(Japan).Aside from the
U.S.Air Force,the Sabre and its
variants also saw service with 26
international users.The last active
duty Sabre retired from the Bolivian
Air Force in 1994.
