was designed for dogfight and attack
ground targets,hence its designation
F for Fighter,a for Attack.The McDonnell
Douglas was awarded the contract
to develop a new aircraft based
on the configuration and design
principles of the YF-17.The F/A-18
Hornet was designated as a supersonic,all-weather
carrier-capable multirole fighter
jet.It was also exported to several
nations.Since 1986,it has been selected
as the aerial demonstration aircraft
for the U.S.Navy's Flight Demonstration,Blue
Angels.
