Building the modern European A400M transport airplane
has been one of the ambitious programs
of Airbus,simultaneously an enormously
important project for several Air
Forces.The A400M impresses with
four turboprop engines,spawned form
the European joint venture,with
11,000 HP each and eight-blade plastic
propellers.Thus powered,a cruising
speed of 780 km/h and a take-off
weight of 140 metric tons,including
a maximum of 37 metric tons of various
cargo,or the transport of 116 soldiers
are possible.
The
A400M's fields of application are
generally very versatile.It can
be converted,for instance,to be
used as an air-to-air refueling
tanker or for transporting bulky
goods like helicopters tanks with
no problem.
An
A400M flew for the first time in
December 2009,and a year later,the
forth prototype - the original of
this 1/200-scale model - was in the
air for the first time.Registered
EC-404,the airplane was later responsible
for loading tests with various helicopter
types,and in 2012,it was a welcome
guest at the ILA in Berlin.In the
same year,the A400M was also given
its official sobriquet "Atlas",but
considerably more popular is the
previously publicized name "Grizzly",which
is also featured on this model.

New mold! Following a long trial phase, including some technical obstacles, the
first series production aircraft of the transport A400M were delivered in 2013.
The A400M was developed to replace the quickly aging Transall C-160 and Lockheed
C-130 Hercules transport and surpasses both in terms of range and freight
capacity. EC-404 was the fourth test aircraft and received the nickname “Grizzly
4”. Later on, the official nickname of the A400M was changed to "Atlas", named
after the world-carrying titan of Greek mythology.
